The school itself was founded in 1832 in Sussex and has continued to thrive since it came to Devon in 1940. The historic buildings and woodlands, which have been adapted to the needs of a modern school, give our boys and girls the ideal environvment for an all-round education. |

The Five Core Principles
1. Every child is an individual, has rights and is special.
2. St Michael's provides a safe and happy environment, a fair and caring Christian family, and a community where children, staff and parents feel comfortable in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
3. The children are offered a full and rounded curriculum. They are encouraged to seize all opportunities, to welcome competition but learn to accept disappointment with goodwill.
4. The staff are role models. They maintain high standards of behaviour and ensure it through consistent, fair and loving discipline. They promote honesty, consideration for others, courage, commitment, initiative, reliability, helpfulness, integrity and cheerfulness. They are responsible for moral, spiritual and social welfare as well as academic progress. They foster children's self-esteem and help them to build positive relationships with other people. They observe and respond appropriately to each child.
5. "The greatest gift, the highest ambition for man, is to make someone's life happier" - Lord Salisbury.
